My actual first post. Wow, how............anticlimactic.

Yes, well this actually my first blog. My first and only one up until now was on Bowienet (www.davidbowie.com) one of my favorite musician/semi-actor/artist/person in the whole world and was doing okay except the place is starting to die a slow and painful death without the once very engaging presence of the man. I'm fine with him having his own projects to do but without the journal entries, the posts on the message boards, I've been wondering why I'm paying so much for not very much. So here I am. Am thinking of working slowly towards transferring all or at least some of my old posts here, as I very much like them myself. Keeping them for my ownsake I guess. Anyhow, I think the format will pretty much be the same, which involves me blabbing about the regular blog stuff. Will also have many recommendations for music which I almost do daily and usually contain tracks I've found on other people's wonderful music blogs - another current obsession of mine.

Other things you might find on this blog:

1. Phrases, Quotes, Passages, Words, Descriptions and all kinds of letters smashed together to form eloquence, humor insight, or anything that just plain catches my eye/fancy.

2. Ramblings about things that irk me, what happened to me etc as a fairly nerdy college kid trying to make it out of school in one piece and perhaps even find a way to make her fragile dreams come true. Which I'll try my hardest not to make into the ordinary drivel you find on some people's blogs that you care nothing for or bores you out of your skull.

3. Movies I watched recently, my opinion of them etc

4. I guess I should mention here then (or perhaps warn) that often times, my comments about actors, people etc can get a little, shall we say female oriented. I can't help it. Intelligent witty men make me giggle and swoon like a schoolgirl. But hopefully at least a slightly intelligent one.

4a. Of these actors/people, particular names that you will often see here include: David Bowie, Hugh Laurie, Ralph Fiennes, Clint Eastwood, John Doe (who? well, you'll find out. Unless you already know of course in which case, I hope you like him too) and Colin Firth (even I am not immune to the Darcy/Bridget Jones Diary effect - ridiculous, I know. Sorry). You will probably also find gratuitous amounts of pictures of these people.

5. Music. Music and more Music. I'm a music junkie. Music is the backbone of my life, my expression, suppression, elation evasion, exaultation, meditation - everything. I'm open to many different kinds of music, especially now in an age of immense genre overlapping, sub genres, and so forth - anything good is anything good. Until I've heard it, I'm not opposed to it. That is, unless its the pappy crap that many music behemoth corporations are trying to shove down our throats - that, I am very veery opposed to and its very hard to change my mind, though its not necessarily impossible (The Killers as an example). The only radio I listen to is Morning Becomes Eclectic w/ Nic Harcourt on KCRW 89.9FM or some of the shows on Indie 103.1 like Jonesy's Jukebox. Most of the music I listen to, I discover on music blogs, on internet radio (like Seattle's lovely KEXP and music mags). Anyhow you'll see a little sample at the end of this post.

For those who might wonder what the hell the title of this blog has to do with anything, The Cave of the Deprecated Heroes is actually a little grotto in the non-famous/famous non Dadaist/Dadaist, Mr. Periphery himself, Kurt Schwitter's residence, the Merzbau. Poor guy was considered too Bougy (boo-gee), (and even though the story turned out not to be true, I suspect there was still a underlying tone of resentment towards him) to be let into the exclusive velvet roped Dada club so he just did his own thing. Still not very appreciated, and perhaps that is the reason why I appreciate him..

I guess thats my little intro. I've ended with my permanent feature (from my old blog), the:

Recommended Tunes For Today:

+ Lightnin' Hopkins - Way Out In Abilene
(a tiny bit of diversion from my usual pre-war Delta blues. A little more electric oomph shall we say)

+ Team 9 - E-Pro vs Scream vs TNT Mash-up of Beck, Molesting Jackson, AC/DC and some Hip-Hop track???
(Crazy good maaash-up)

+ Moon People - Hippy Skippy Moon Stomp
(Stompy, Funky groove complete with wah wah guitars and snappy horn section ala James Brown)

+ Joe Tex - One Monkey Don't Stop No Show
(Have no idea where I found this but it kicks ass in the way only old driving sweaty R&B/Soul can. Winning line, "He said, thiiings just don't happen like that, up here in New York")

+ Gilberto Gil - The Three Mushrooms
(Man, I thought he was Bossa Nova. Hippy trippy kind of shrooms song w/ plucky guitars and echo-ey background vocals)

+ Hugh Laurie - Oh By Jingo
(This will be a sequeway to a post tomorrow about the object of my new full blown obsession, Hugh Laurie. I don't think I've ever been so obsessed, so fast. This one is special folk. Love singing to this song, which is from the lovely Jeeves and Wooster series with Stephen Fry. Makes me grin from ear to ear: "oh by gee, by gosh, by gum, by joe...by by joe, by by joe, by by joe....oh by jingo won't you hear our love, will you kindly raise your voice? LOUDER! we will build for you a hut YES! you will be our favorite nut CRACK! we'll have a lot of little oh by joe-ses")
Semi first post

Testing this blog thing with an old post from my other blog.......

Realizing just how freaking long the last post was, will try to keep this one short.

Thai food w/ mum and sis was very good. Spent far too long in the supermarket marveling over neverending options for potential meals, made my little splurge on some extreneous 2.99 smoked salmon, watched Sixteen Candles together. My mom liked the Donger. "Au-to-mo-bile???"

Am starting to think I will stick w/ this creative writing gig. I think my work will be good enough....bought me books today (at an independent store!! gasp!). Trying to get a head start as the other classmates look like they're heck of a lot better readers than I am. Am starting off with Art Spiegelman's In The Shadow of No Towers. Only read a small section of Maus but am very excited...

Recommended Tunes For Today:

+ Joy Division - Decades
(still trying to find out what the clackey noise in the back is)

+ Nouvelle Vague - The Guns Of Brixton
(wonderful album of covers by these Frenchies)

+ The Earlies - I Must Have Been Blind
(Hmmm am starting to really get into Tim Buckley's songs)

+ James Moody - I'm In The Mood For Love
(idiot me thought this was another version when in fact this is the original. Almost as shocking as finding out Chaplin wrote Smile. Am totally in love with this song at the moment)

+ Nat King Cole - Smile
(The only version I have. Actually I don't know why it's so shocking. Its quite chaplinesque)

+ A Tribe Called Quest - Lyrics To Go
("When it comes to days like this, I got lyrics to go"

+ M83 - Run Into Flowers
(One day watching a commercial I said "why does that song sound so familiar"? I'm still a little pissed they sold the song for a car commercial. But whats "selling out" nowadays? When even Dylan has done it, all bets are off)

+ The Cardigans - Marvel Hill
(Usually I immediately erase all the cds, my sis puts into my iTunes while updating her pod but hmm, this is actually pretty good)

+ John Doe - Heartless
(When it opens with the kick drum and steel pedal guitar, yeah. Then his voice comes in, oh yeah)
