Maggie Chung is awesome is go watchClean. This is the last movie she did w/ her now ex-husband - just a funfact.

So I saw the poster of Forrest Whitaker in The Last King Of Scotland and my first reaction is wha? Whitaker? Scotland? "I don't get it" I said to myself, but perhaps that was the point. Anyways, I heard about the performances but didn't know what the movie was about and for some reason, avoided reviews of the film even when the opportunity presented itself. Finally gave it a chance and watched the trailer. I'm veeeery interested now.

Just read the title: Fur: An Imaginary Portrait of Diane Arbus I'm already interested. Woooooow.

The visuals for Tideland has totally got me sold

Oooh! Tom Tykwer! I've seen 3 of his films so far and thought they were all interesting and two (Princess and Warrior/Run Lola Run) were so visually arresting so I'll definitely watch Purfume. Not to mention, I've wanted to read the book for a while now and the film has Alan Rickman and Dustin Hoffman!

Death Of A President On the hypothetical assassination of Bush Jr. Someone's wishful thinking? I'm surprised the people who's behind this movie aren't already in trouble. By the way, someone who's close to me (and shall remain anonymous) has told me repeatedly that Jr is probably going to get killed some time after he's done w/ his term.

And because I'm such an Anglophile, I want to watch History Boys which is about a bunch of brit boys trying to get into Cambridge and Oxford. Looks like your regular inspirational edumacation flick, but its british! yay!

Hmm, couldn't find the poster.
The gang has put out another one, For Your Consideration. I'm laughing already.

Its 5:00 pm and all I had to eat today was some cabbage with gravy. I know, what a wierd choice of food but that was the only thing in my fridge that I could heat up quickly and eat - well, besides a yogurt which I didn't want. Just got back from my life drawing class and about to go to the kitchen and cook up something decent but will decided to post entry first.

After saturday i've concluded:
SNL - not funny. Hugh Laurie - very funny. When you put them together you get a entertaining show with some brilliant bits and some painful bits. Hugh is the fugliest lookin woman but he has the thighs and ass of a god. Also worth noting that Beck had one kickass performance complete with puppets, harmonica and dinner table percussion.
Today, we had one hot lookin' model. The previous bunch of people had all been middle aged or sort of squishy, ugly etc but today the girl that was modeling for us was damn gorgeous. And I'm saying this from the perspective of a straight girl, I mean she was gorgeous like movie star gorgeous (without the charisma though). The guys in the class didn't oogle, thankfully, but I'm sure more than a few took a few moments from their sketching and drawing to appreciate. Drawing her, however is a little more difficult as you've got to get the lines and curves more accurately and you don't have folds and chunkiness of skin/fat you can cover up your mistakes with. Hope the girl can come back again the next session. Or at least get a good lookin guy.
Besides that little note, class is as always - a nice time to exercise and loosen up without using the muscle in the noggin. The only troubling part is the gesture drawing, which I've always had difficulty in doing. I just can't seem to go fast enough and I dread every time the professor comes around to critique and tell me what I'm doing wrong. The T.A. gave me a helpful pointer though, and that is to not lift the charcoal from the paper, which forced me to draw through the figure. Either way, I'm usually sweating buckets by the time I'm through, just from the sheer pressure I'm putting on myself to constantly go faster, faster.
What else, oh House back from hiatus last night.
I don't have the experience, but it probably felt like that first shot of morphine after a while in withdrawal. Lots of snarkiness which is totally great and the people behind the show indulged us girls with a totally unneccesary but oh so delicious shot of Hugh/House's belly and button.

I didn't think I'd ever say this but that was the sexiest arrest ever broadcast on television. There's nary a girl who watched that and didn't think about handcuffing House for better purposes to their bed. Why can't they have stuff like that on cops??
A couple more Hugh pics (just because I can):

What a pimp. All the ladies love the Hugh.

From that cheesetastic Hugh vehicle called Girl From Rio. He is so adorable during this segment of the film.

Whoever was the photographer for this shoot should be rewarded with his weight in gold. Sex god i tell you. Sex god!
Recommeded Tunes for Today:
(next 10 songs that play on my iTunes)
+ Don't Stop Me Now - Queen
(Freddie Mercury go go go!)
+ Born On The 13th - Smokey Hogg
("I was flyin to California and landed in Shanghai...")
+ Scattered Black and Whites - Elbow
(I don't know why but listening to Elbow is like going back in time. When specifically I have no clue but I just get the sense of going to a somewhat hazy but comforting past)
+ Judy Is A Punk - Ramones
(Perfect for a soundtrack)
+ Queen Bitch - David Bowie
(He's one sexy bitch he is)
+ I'm In The Mood Again - Elvis Costello
(Some sweet ballady softness that makes me want to make soup for Elvis)
+ Move On Up - Curtis Mayfield
(Oh yeah!! Man I love Curtis so much. Doesn't get enough credit I think for all the groovetastic stuff he makes. Too wholesome, people probably think)
+ She - Green Day
(woah. ok, didn't see this song coming. Takes me back to the good ole times in junior high. I remember practicing the graduation ceremony and my english teacher took one look at my Green Day shirt (which depicted a man pissing on a flower in an alleyway) and said "nice shirt" in a psuedo sarcastic manner and without missing a beat I said, "Thanks!")
+ Cherry Blossom Girl - Air
(eh. Want to skip to next song)
+ For The Damaged - Blonde Redhead
(A band introduced to me by my college "schoolgirl" crush. Thank god I'm over thaat now. ::rolls eyes::)

If you're not too busy listen to This
The show is called This American Life and it is my new love. This show plays on one of the few remaining good radio stations in Los Angeles: 89.9 KCRW. In the mornings, you can be introduced to a world of original and brain stimulating music all gently guided along by the soothing timbre of the NY/Austrailian/British accented Nic Harcourt, my sister's secret crush (don't tell her I told you that), and on the weekends you can groove along to the supremely well chosen songs of Chris "Coke-er" Douridas.
Recommended Tunes of the Day:
Today I've got a whole album to recommend..

+ Sean Lennon - Friendly Fire
The first album kicked ass and nobody gave a shit because the work was compared to his his fathers. Why didn't anyone compare it to Cibo Matto's work baffles me, because it obviously had more influence on Into The Sun (the 1st album) than any of Lennon senior's work. I'm not saying he's not his father because everyone has a lot of their parents in them. Heck, I am and emulate my father in many ways but that doesn't mean we're not ourselves either. Anyhow, I feel stupid even having to talk about this. It is just a good album - plain and simple. It certainly doesn't have the funky eclectic-ness of his freshman effort but Friendly Fire is a more intropsective contemplation. The melodys are mellow and hip but suggest a richness and lyrics quirky enough to be fresh. Honestly, if this album was attributed to anyone other than Sean, there'd be more talk.
The only thing I don't really understand about this is the use of Dead Meat as the single. It is one of the weaker songs of the album and I really think Falling Out of Love should've been the choice but anyhoo thats just my opinion.
Friendly Fire Trailer
If you can believe, Sean did a whole cinematic trailer to promote his album. How cool is that.

+ John Martyn - Singin' In The Rain
(I reeeeeaaaally hope someone doesn't use this song in a commercial. It is simply too beautiful to be desecrated as a product pusher)
+ Dr. John - Careless Love
(Beautiful piano work. Then again, would you have expected anything else from Dr. John?)
oh yeah,
watch this:

Its as fabulous as everyone says it is.

Oy-ly fricken frack. Time to that familiar tune, where did all my time go. Summer has come and went with the few expected days of immense heat where you seriously start considering whether you're cooking or not, but there were also a few unexpected days of lovely global warming wackiness that turned the weather around to a snot-dripping chill.
Anyhow back to reality and stress and that nasty nail biting habit. Someone punch me with the fists of inspiration and motivation please.
But I definitely don't mind coming back to this:

Recommended Tunes For Today: Ah now here is something I look forward to doing again. So many good tunes. Without my internet connection, its really easy to fall out of the music scene and miss out on so many good tunes.
+ Jens Lekman - I Saw Her In The Anti War Demonstration
+ Muddy Waters - The Blues Had A Baby And They Named It Rock & Roll
(Did anyone watch that PBS special abotu a month ago on Muddy? I totally blasted my TV so the neighbors could listen to what REAL music is supposed to sound like. By the way, I know everyone called him Muddy but his given name is so awesome too - McKinley)

One of the best albums ever.
+ Sergio Mendes - Hey Girl
(ok, so I thought this album - Timeless - was going to be some Santana/other artist thing but its actually quite good)
+ Stone Temple Pilots - Lounge Fly
(Pre- Velvet Underground goodness. Ah the good ole days of grunge and heroin)
+ Ben Kweller - Penny On The Train Track
(yay, a new album from that boy no-longer-boy wonder)
+ Joe Cocker - Change In Louise
(ok, he's a Ray Charles knockoff but his songs are so ear friendly)
+ TV On The Radio - Bomb Yourself
(was a little disappointed by their performance on Morning Becomes Eclectic. Was it bad acoustics? Bad equipment? The early hours? Jetlag?? ???
+ Time, Where Did You Go - Hugh Laurie (from A Bit of Fry and Laurie)
