Oscars.

Are you kidding me?? Crash is this year's Traffic. A fairly good film that will be forgotten 5 years from now. And finally FINALLY Ang has gotten his Oscar, the one they stole from him, ironically by Soderbergh for Traffic a few years back. Other good stuff, Philip Seymour Hoffman who rightly deserved the best acting nod, Rachel Weisz who looked like a wonderful radiant breath of elegance, the fabulously geeky and cute creators of Wallace and Gromit and their bowties - yay (!!) Helena Bonham Carter and Tim Burton who looked freaky deaky as always, the director who won for Tsotsi for his electric speech, Itzahk Perlman for rollin with the jokes, Ben Stiller for having the balls - as we could very well see - to come out in front of how many millions of people in that green outfit, Lily Tomlin and Merly Streep for being queens (or maybe I should put a capital Q there) of the ball with their delightful intro to Robert Altman, Dolly Parton for those...yeah....and also her delightful performance which was actually quite entertaining in that groovy old fashioned way, and Larry McMurty that impossibly antiquated and geeky looking man next to Diana Ossana who won for best screenplay (Brokeback), and thanked - gasp and applaud - booksellers. Hurrah!

The not so cool - Aside from Crash winning best pic, Reese Witherspoon, who I can't help but feel like the Academy is giving the award to June Carter Cash's character (as in integrity and strength not acting character) rather than Witherspoon's acting which was nice, but its pretty much like Witherspoon's real personality...Felicity Huffman should've gotten it, seriously. It was nice to see Futterman (!) and Jon Stewart with some pretty darn hilarious bits that the audience was too stodgy and self conscious to laugh at.

Sadly not too many of my loves showed up, no movies to promote this year I guess. Will try and wake up extra early tomorrow morning to snag my copy of LA Times before everyone else. Have a feeling it'll run out fast tomorrow.
