Things I am craving:

Japanese - Sushi: Tekkamaki (Tuna Roll), Philly Roll, Boston Roll, Spider Roll Nigiri: Tamago, Hotategai (scallops), Masago Others: Dynamite,Tempura, Tonkatsu, Ramen, Sunomono

Southern/Soul Food - Jambalaya, BBQ Ribs, Fried Chicken, Fried Crawfish, Fried Shrimp, Sweet Potato Pie, Hot Links, Hush Puppies, Corn Bread, Biscuits n Gravy, Grits, Rice Pudding mmmm mmm!

oh man, I can't help it, I have to post more than one pic up:

I love love love love cornbread!

Got these fantabulously drool worthy pics from a japanese site about a NYC place called Mekka on or near Housten St. Since I can't read Japanese, I'm thinking the person is a tourist. Either way, I'm extremely jealous.

American Diner/Comfort - In n Out cheeseburger, Fair Oaks Pharmacy/Soda Fountain: Gerry's Chicken Salad Sandwich, BLT, (super yummy) Vanilla Egg Cream, Chicken Pot Pie, Meat Loaf and some reaally good Mashed Potatoes

For the life of me, can't find a pic of a VANILLA egg cream. The original ny style is chocolate so chocolate it must be.

Went to the little theater workshop (see yesterday's post) for about 3 hours. After we broke for lunch, decided not to go back for a number of reasons. Number one, still had a lot of work to do for my classes which was taking longer than expected, Number two, am freaking tired as I slept at 3 am and woke up at 8am so the idea of running around and putting up lights is not exactly fun sounding. Number three, am on my rag so underline "freaking tired" and much rather sit at my desk and study. Number four, the group is pretty small and are all freshman, covering lots of material that I already know from my previous experience taking Theater production classes and "hangings" for shows - feels like wasting time when I have assignments to do. Number five, I'm not in the mood to challenge my fear of heights today. It was hard enough the first time at the "hanging" and almost passed out. It has gotten better over the years, challenging it when I can, but today in consideration of all the other factors, its just too much work.
Okay, so after sounding completely whiny, I'm going to either take a nap or try and stay awake and write. Probably latter. I hate the groggy/hangover feeling I get for the rest of the day after taking a nap.

Phrase that caught my eye today:
"Eight pages of polychromatic effulgence that makes the rainbow look like a lead pipe!" - seen in Art Spiegelman's In The Shadow Of No Towers.

Recommended Tunes For Today:

+ Ted Leo And Pharmacists - Ghosts
(I like the "just plugged and ready to go" guitar sound going on here)

+ Richard Hawley - Darlin
(reminiscent of Leonard Cohen in its quiet plaintive melody and Scott Walker in his low croon)

+ Elliiot Smith - Coast to Coast
(How I miss him and the anticipation of new music from him. The beginning discordant hum segueing [actual word!] into the blast of guitars and drums - amazing)

+ Charlie Butler - Diamond Joe
(One of my favorite blues/folk songs Ever. A Lomax "field recording" made in 1937 by "Big Charlie" Butler, then a prisoner at the Parchman prison. Apparently references a Mississippi steamboat")

+ Ben Folds Five - Evaporated
(My sister's big time obsession in college. I myself am more of a fan of the slow songs than the collegy geek rock, though there is a balance to be kept because Ben Fold's newer songs tend to be too family man for me)

+ David Bowie - Everything's Alright
(That opening "Woooaahh little beybeh" is enough get a reaction out of me. He should play this song in concerts and do a sexy preen with it. Yeah.)

+ David Bowie - Heathen (The Rays)
(Anthem-ic song)

[gasp!] I just realized I haven't put up any pictures of Bowie yet. What a stunner. Must remedy that immediately.

Awesome cover, awesome album

Gorgeous
